Pulse Physiotherapy is an evidence-based clinic, meaning that we strive to incorporate the most current and up-to-date research regarding physiotherapy treatment into our daily practice. Our physiotherapists continue coursework to regularly update their skillset and stay current with the ever-advancing field of physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy can be helpful for a wide variety of conditions: musculoskeletal pain/injury, dizziness/vertigo, post-concussion syndrome, and motor-vehicle accident injuries (commonly whiplash) to name a few.
We pride ourselves on being able to help individuals with a variety of different ailments, including those who have had limited success with previous forms of treatment.
If you have questions about whether or not physiotherapy is right for you, feel free to call in and ask to speak with one of our qualified physiotherapists. We will get in touch with you at our earliest convenience to answer any questions you may have.
Physiotherapy is a primary healthcare profession in Ontario. This means that you do not need a doctor’s referral to receive physiotherapy treatment. However, some extended health benefit plans still require a physician’s referral to get costs reimbursed, so patients are advised to check the details of their benefit plans.
If you have extended health benefits or have been injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident, you will likely have coverage for physiotherapy treatments. If you are using extended health benefits, check with the details of your plan in your Extended Health Manual or by calling a representative from your insurance company.
We now offer direct billing to most extended health benefit companies for your convenience. However, we do not offer OHIP/WSIB treatment plans at this time.
At your initial assessment, your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough verbal and physical evaluation. Your condition will be explained to you, prognosis will be discussed, and a treatment plan will be outlined. This will be followed directly by treatment on your first day, allowing you to fully benefit from every visit to our clinic.
Follow up treatment sessions are variable, depending on the type of injury and rate of recovery. Generally, treatment will consist of education, manual therapy (hands-on treatment), exercise prescription (individualized exercise program will be designed for you), and may involve modalities for pain relief (acupuncture, interferential current, ultrasound, heat).
New physiotherapy patients have one-hour assessments and follow-up treatments are generally 30-45 minutes in length. All appointments are one-on-one with your physiotherapist.
The number of treatment sessions you will need depends on your condition. Your physiotherapist will fully evaluate your situation at the initial assessment. They will be able to provide you with information regarding your condition, determine your prognosis, and work with you to outline an effective treatment plan.
It is our goal to leave patients with improved knowledge of their condition and an individualized home exercise program to continue with for lasting results.
For your initial assessment, please bring your physician’s referral (if you have one), a list of any regular medications you take, any tests/medical reports (x-ray, ultrasound, MRI) that may be relevant to your condition.
If you wish to use our direct billing services, please bring your extended health benefits card.
If your condition is related to a motor vehicle accident, we will require your insurance company’s information (extended health benefit plan and auto insurance information), your claim number, your case manager’s name and contact information.
Patients should wear clothing that is appropriate to their injury and region of the body that we will be assessing/treating. Shorts for lower body injuries and a t-shirt or tank top for upper body injuries are usually sufficient.
We ask patients to please remove their outdoor footwear upon entering the clinic. If you prefer to wear shoes, please bring indoor shoes or slippers with you to change into.
