Adam Summers

Adam was born and raised in Scarborough, ON and grew up spending his summers at his family cottage in Coe Hill. He graduated from Western University in 2005 after completing a Bachelor of Health Science. He continued his education at Western to complete a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy in 2007. After graduating, Adam relocated to Peterborough, working as an orthopaedic physiotherapist in a local clinic for seven years, before teaming up with Connor to open Pulse Physiotherapy in 2014. He works with the Junior A Peterborough Lakers as a team physiotherapist and currently volunteers as a trainer for Peterborough Minor Hockey. While working, he continued his education in the areas of acupuncture, soft tissue release and manual therapy. In the fall of 2015, he gained Fellowship status in the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists (FCAMPT). He enjoys incorporating manual therapy and exercise to help the people of Peterborough get back to enjoying their active lives.

Connor Massimo

Connor was born and raised in Peterborough, ON and grew up involved in many local youth sports. He graduated in 2009 from McMaster University with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He continued at McMaster to complete his Master’s degree in Physiotherapy in 2011. After graduating, Connor quickly returned to the city he loved and began working as an orthopaedic physiotherapist at local clinic in Peterborough. In 2014, Connor teamed up with Adam to open Pulse Physiotherapy, a clinic with a focus on implementing manual therapy and exercise prescription into a model of one-on-one patient care. He has continued his education in the fields of pain science, dry needling and manual therapy. In 2015, Connor gained his FCAMPT (Fellowship of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy) designation and he is now an instructor and mentor within the manual therapy student program. He enjoys helping the people of Peterborough and surrounding areas return to the activities that they love.

Ella VanBruinessen

Ella grew up in Kingston ON, with strong family ties to the Peterborough area. She received her Master’s in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto and her Bachelor’s in Health Science at Ottawa University. Since graduating, Ella's work and educational experience has continued to grow. She has completed her Certificate of Anatomical Acupuncture, Level 5 of manual therapy training through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and has received an Advanced Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Therapy. Ella's experience in orthopedic clinical settings allows her to combine manual techniques, acupuncture, personalized exercise prescription. She is familiar with various musculoskeletal and neuromotor conditions, including post-concussive syndrome. As an athlete with a passion for running, she understands and appreciates sports injuries and the necessary steps for treatment and optimal recovery. Ella has a passion, and experience working with the pediatric population at varying stages of development, through her time at Holland Bloorview Children's Rehab Hospital. Regardless of age or injury, Ella strongly believes that accurately diagnosing the root of the problem and developing the treatment from there, is the key to a successful recovery.

Jenn Fitzgerald

Born and raised in Brockville, ON, Jenn completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, graduating from Western University in 2009. She continued her studies at the University of Toronto and graduated with a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy in 2013. Since graduating, Jenn relocated to pursue her dream of working in an out-patient clinic in Cobourg, ON, and has since relocated to Peterborough, continuing her career as a successful physiotherapist. Jenn has also been actively involved in assisting many sports teams in the different cities she has resided in, giving her experience and an understanding of sports injuries and recovery. Jenn is passionate about furthering her education in order to provide the best and up to date care for each of her patients and has continued her instruction in the areas of manual therapy, soft tissue release, acupuncture, and pelvic health. When she is not at work, helping the people of Peterborough get back to their daily activities, Jenn can be found curling at the Ennismore Curling Club, or spending time with her family. She enjoys running and hiking and living an active lifestyle.

Leah Stajcer

Leah has lived in Owen Sound, London and Ottawa before finally landing here in Peterborough. Leah graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology in 2011, and went on to complete her Masters of Physical Therapy in 2013. During her time in Kinesiology, Leah worked as an athletic trainer for the varsity women's rugby team. Since graduating, Leah has completed several post graduate courses, expanding her knowledge in Orthopedics with a special interest in Pelvic Health. These courses include dry needling (Kinetacore), pelvic health courses (PHS Level 1, 2, 3) and orthopedic courses (Manual Therapy Level 1, 2, 3). Leah's favorite quote as it relates to her personal and professional life is, "I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen." - Ernest Hemingway. Outside of the clinic, Leah enjoys travelling, squash, ultimate frisbee and reading. She is excited to be a part of our qualified team of professionals and to add her experience and expertise to the many services offered at Pulse Physiotherapy.

Jay Martin

Jay grew up in Bowmanville, ON and was very active in sports throughout his childhood. This interest led him to an honour’s Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Wilfrid Laurier University. He then went on to continue his post-secondary education at the University of Toronto where he obtained a Master’s in Physiotherapy in 2010. Since graduating, Jay has worked in a variety of orthopaedic settings with a strong focus on manual therapy and a hands-on approach. He has a particular interest and vast experience in working with athletes of all levels, from the common recreational athlete, to professional sports players. Jay plans to complete coursework in the area of sport-specific training, which will help him get athletes back to the sport they love even faster. Jay has taken extensive coursework in acupuncture, functional dry needling, functional movement screening, and manual therapy. He completed his Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2017 and is a Fellow with the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). Jay remains an avid sports fan and leads an active lifestyle that includes hockey, cycling, soccer, ultimate frisbee, basketball, and volleyball.

Emma Crozier

Emma spent much of her childhood in Peterborough where she was very involved in both dance and gymnastics. She graduated from Western University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, and went on to work as a Kin. at a multi-disciplinary clinic in Ottawa, where she discovered and fell in love with movement culture and training. She decided to make that passion an integral part of her life and professional practice which led her to acquire her Masters in Physiotherapy at Western in 2018. During her time in school, she worked as an athletic trainer for the Track and Field team, before completing a placement in Australia. Since graduation, Emma has continued her education in injury risk management, soft tissue release, movement and mobility fundamentals. Emma has special interests in weightlifting, CrossFit and adult gymnastics. She is passionate about engaging Peterborough’s population on an individual and community level to inspire and empower them to take ownership of their health and prioritize their wellbeing!

Jennifer Gemmell

Jen grew up in Oakville, ON, and recently moved to the Peterborough area to start a life in Warsaw, ON. Jen has been passionate about rehabilitation ever since she fractured her leg playing high school rugby. She completed her Honors Bachelor’s of Science, Kinesiology degree from McMaster University, in 2016, and worked as a Rehabilitation Therapist in the Acquired Brain Injury Unit at Hamilton General Hospital. She then completed her Masters of Science, Physical Therapy from Queens University in 2019. As a new graduate, she has a breadth of knowledge and experience working in a variety of different clinics and hospitals. Jen is passionate about using the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatments in her practice, and plans to further her education in orthopaedics. Her treatment style involves using the bio-psycho-social approach, with a focus on education and exercise-based therapy. When she is not at work, Jen enjoys running, powerlifting, and hiking in Peterborough County.

Massage Therapists

Elysia Corcoran

Elysia was born and raised in Peterborough, ON. She graduated from the Massage Therapy program at Fleming College and has been registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario since 2015. Since becoming a Registered Massage Therapist, Elysia has worked in a variety of multi-disciplinary settings. She has great interest in treating many different conditions and impairments ranging from chronic pain, various repetitive strain injuries from work or overuse, postural dysfunction, TMJ dysfunction as well as stress relief. She has extensive experience treating individuals of all ages and injury. Elysia uses a variety of techniques based on each individual’s needs and encourages both mobility and movement in her treatment. In her free time, she enjoys participating in various types of exercise including yoga and circuit training. She appreciates spending time with her family and being outdoors when not at work. Elysia has a passion for health and fitness, and even runs a boxing and fitness gym with her husband. She is thrilled to be a part of our qualified professional team and provide the people of Peterborough with the care they need and deserve.

Kristine Adams

Kristine has been a Registered Massage Therapist with the College of Massage Therapists since 2016, graduating from Peterborough’s Fleming College program. Kristine has an extensive background working in multi disciplinary clinic settings and brings that experience to her practice and Pulse Physiotherapy. Kristine first worked as a Physiotherapy Assistant before pursuing a successful career in Massage Therapy. Her goal is to get her clients back to doing what they love most, whether is be their favourite sports, fitness routines, or just everyday life tasks. Her treatments are based on each clients’ individual needs and wants, whether it’s to get you back to play, or to send you off into a relaxing weekend. She enjoys educating her clients about their injuries and treatment as well as the importance of home care exercises. Kristine has a passion and appreciation for all thing’s fitness and nutrition. When not treating patients in the clinic, you can find her in the gym preparing for her next powerlifting meet, or at different local restaurants trying new cuisine.

Brent Miller

  • Massage Therapist

Brent Miller is a local registered massage therapist, who resides in Peterborough with his wife and two children. He is an alumnus of the Fleming College Massage Therapy program, graduating in 1998. Since graduating, Brent has worked in several multi-disciplinary clinics in both Toronto and Peterborough, before bringing his practice to Pulse Physiotherapy. Brent teaches weekly as the Massage Therapy Technologist at Fleming College in Peterborough and has sat on the board of the Ontario Massage Therapist Association as both a director and Vice-President. Over the years, Brent has treated a variety of cases and patients, taught numerous RMT workshops, and has been the massage therapist for the Peterborough Lakers of Major Series Lacrosse since 2002. Brent integrates a variety of different modalities into his treatments including traditional massage techniques, Active Soft Tissue Manipulation, Dynamic Taping and a variety of stretching techniques. He is honored to bring his experience and expertise to the people of Peterborough and surrounding areas and looks forward to getting his clients back to the activities of daily life they love.

Administration

Meghan Van de Bor

  • Clinic Manager

Meghan is the Clinic Manager at Pulse Physiotherapy and wears many hats in her everyday role in the clinic. She has been with the Pulse Physiotherapy team since opening our doors in 2014 and has been an integral part of the growth and success of the practice. She brings extensive experience, having worked in the health care administrative field in both hospital and clinic settings for several years. She enjoys meeting new patients and ensuring their every need is met during their time at our clinic. Meghan strives to bring the best service and care possible to our valued clients and community. In her free time, Meghan loves painting custom artwork, and you can see many of her wonderful pieces displayed on the walls of our clinic. Outside of work, she appreciates family time, and spending time with her husband and son in the community.

Alyson Scorns

  • Administrative Manager

Alyson was born and raised in Peterborough and has big views of the world having been a flight attendant for four years. She has always had a drive to help people and a passionate desire to learn. This led her to further her studies in both the administrative, and physiotherapy field. Alyson completed her diploma in Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant from Fleming College, before completing her Office Administration certificate from Durham College. With over 15 years of customer service experience, Alyson brought her expertise and skill-set to Pulse Physiotherapy in August 2017. She enjoys helping the people of this community and working alongside the Pulse Physiotherapy team to ensure the highest quality of care for everyone at the clinic. She consistently goes above and beyond for our valued patients and is always looking for new and innovative ways to improve the patient experience at Pulse Physiotherapy.

Jen Ayres

  • Receptionist

Jen is a born and raised Peterborough local, and has been an important part of the Pulse Physiotherapy administrative team since 2017. Jen graduated with her Level 2 Dental Assisting diploma from Cambrian College in Sudbury, ON in 2013. She has since worked in both the customer service and medical field for several years and has experience in various clinic settings. She brings many skill-sets and strengths to our practice, and strives to make each patient’s experience positive, greeting all of our valued clients with a smile. Jen is very involved with Peterborough’s lacrosse and hockey community – playing competitively since the age of three. She is passionate about nutrition, health and fitness, and when not at work, is often found in the gym. Jen also loves travelling, a good book, cycling, and paddle boarding.

Amber Pick

  • Receptionist

Amber is a valued part of Pulse Physiotherapy’s administrative staff. She thoroughly enjoys her role at the clinic where she manages our daily schedule, provides billing and customer service to our valued patients. Amber graduated from Sir Sanford Fleming College with a Social Service Worker diploma. After working in her field of study for three years, Amber decided to start her family here in Peterborough. She then returned to the workforce into the customer service sector where she maintained the highest customer satisfaction while growing in both leadership and management roles. We welcomed Amber and her expertise to Pulse Physiotherapy in 2018. In her spare time, Amber enjoys travelling the world with her family, listening to music, hiking, bicycling and reading. She welcomes all new patients to Pulse Physiotherapy and looks forward to working with new and existing clientele to make their experience seamless and enjoyable.
